Houston County authorizes application for General Land Office Local Communities Program grant

The Houston County Commissioners voted March 10 to authorize the Grants Administrator to apply for the General Land Office’s Local Communities Program (LCP) grant.

Sheila Johnson, Grants Administrator, told the Court the action being requested was to indicate Houston County’s interest so the county will be placed on the LCP list. According to the meeting record, Johnson outlined some of the grant’s potential financial benefits and said, "This part of the process is to simply show we are interested and want to be put on the list." Commissioner Willie Kitchen moved to authorize the application; Commissioner Gene Stokes seconded and the motion carried 5 to 0.

The authorization does not commit the county to specific expenditures; it authorizes staff to proceed with application steps required by the General Land Office.
