The Accomack County Planning Commission approved a motion to hold a joint work session with the Board of Supervisors and consultant the Berkeley Group on Tuesday, March 24 at 5:30 p.m. at the Parksley Library to begin an 18-month comprehensive-plan update.
Lee Panda said the Berkeley Group will be on-site March 23–24 to interview department heads and meet with pairs of supervisors, and staff intend the March 24 evening work session to gather commission and board priorities, community concerns and the vision that will guide the consultant’s work. Panda said staff would provide commissioners with a packet that includes the RFP scope and a checklist of priorities the commission previously identified.
Commissioners discussed likely subjects for revision, including coastal resiliency, water and sewer capacity, emergency services, wells and septic systems. Panda characterized the update as a comprehensive rework of content and formatting to make the plan more accessible to the public and to reflect changes since the last major update in 2014.
Next steps: staff will circulate materials in advance of the March 24 work session and the Berkeley Group will deliver additional diagnostic information prior to the meeting.
