The Covington Board of Commissioners on Feb. 28 unanimously voted to suspend the rules to allow a first reading of an ordinance that would vacate public rights-of-way at the former Duro Bag property site.
Commissioner Tim Acri moved to suspend the rules so the ordinance could be taken up for first reading; Commissioner Tim Downing seconded. Mayor Ronald L. Washington asked for additional discussion, and with none offered the Board took a voice vote. Voting yea were Commissioners Tim Acri, Tim Downing, Shannon Smith, James Toebbe and Mayor Washington; no nays were recorded.
The ordinance introduced for first reading is Commissioners’ Ordinance No. O-xx-2026, described in the minutes as "An Ordinance vacating a public rights-of-way located on the former 13th Street and former 14th Street, and located on land adjacent to Neave Street within the former Duro Bag property site." The minutes record the first reading but do not show a final vote on adoption during the special session.
City staff were present for the special meeting, which began at 9:00 a.m. at the Commission Chambers of City Hall, 20 West Pike Street. The minutes list City Manager Sharmili Reddy and department directors from finance, economic development, public safety, public works and legal among attendees. The special meeting adjourned at 12:15 p.m.
