A Pulaski County quorum court committee on March 10 voted unanimously to send ordinance 26 I 12 — a proposal to rezone Lots 8–10, Block E of the Mead Subdivision from R-2 residential to C-1 neighborhood commercial — to the full quorum court with a "do pass" recommendation.
Amy read the ordinance describing the rezoning request. Planning staff Jim Crainer said property owner Dowell Evans seeks the C-1 designation to permit a roughly 1,200-square-foot food store on Fraser Pike in the College Station neighborhood. "Planning board approved this application at their last meeting on February 24," Crainer said.
Justices asked whether residents raised objections at the planning board hearing; Crainer said there was no opposition at that meeting. A court member noted the proposed store would address a local food desert in College Station.
After discussion, committee members moved, seconded and voted by roll call; the clerk recorded 13 ayes and the committee forwarded the ordinance to the full quorum court with a recommendation to approve.
The full quorum court will consider the rezoning at its next session.
