Senate adopts committee advice, refers dozens of house bills and sets adjournment dates

The senate adopted a committee report from the committee on gubernatorial appointments after Senator from Shelby moved to adopt the report and requested a waiver of reading; the motion carried and the senate gave advice and consent to the appointments as recorded in the journal.

Following committee reports, Senator from Shelby directed referrals: SCR 21 was sent to the committee on rules, joint rules, resolutions, and ethics, and SJR 95 was sent to the committee on fiscal oversight. The secretary then read a long list of house bills and committee referrals covering topics that included juvenile certification for adult trial, sentencing terms with delayed effective dates, a MoHealthNet joint resolution, motor vehicle registration, tax levies by political subdivisions, the athletic trainer compact, taxation of property, interstate teacher mobility, sales tax exemptions, tobacco products, outdoor advertising, state revenue joint resolution, agricultural education, detention for mental health evaluation and various education accountability and safety matters. The transcript records committee names for each referral but does not include committee reports or fiscal notes on the floor.

Senator from Platt announced a technical session over spring break and stated that adjournment would be until Thursday, March 19 at 10:00 a.m.; staff and members would not be required to attend the technical session and regular business would resume Monday, March 23 at 4:00 p.m. The senate then voted to adjourn to that date.
