At its March 12, 2026 meeting, the Clute City Council approved two formal actions and handled routine business.
Resolution 12-2026: The council voted to appoint Brandon Garvey to the Traffic Commission to fill the vacated Position 4, with a term expiring in September 2027. The resolution was moved and seconded and approved on a voice vote.
Resolution 13-2026: The council also approved a resolution to suspend the effective date of a CenterPoint Energy proposed gas rate increase for 45 days and to continue the city's participation in a coalition of cities (the Texas Coast Utilities Coalition) to coordinate responses. Staff described the measure as Clute's routine participation in coalition efforts to challenge or review utility filings; the motion passed on a unanimous voice vote.
Consent agenda: Staff summarized routine consent items (including authorization for aerial freight operations and minutes), but one council member asked to remove the accounts-payable report for clarification related to a late invoice tied to a lift-station repair. Council discussed the invoice with staff and then proceeded with other business.
Executive session: The council adjourned into executive session under provisions of the Texas Government Code related to personnel and attorney consultation. Upon return to open session the mayor announced no action had been taken as a result of the executive session.
