Chief Branson presented the Taylor Police Department’s annual racial profiling report and told the City Council that "in 2025, the Taylor Police Department received no complaints of racial profiling." He said the packet includes a compilation of traffic stops (citations, arrests and warnings), a comparative analysis and a TPD demographic analysis tied to the 2020 census.
Branson said the department recorded a little less than 5,000 stops during the year and that citations were much lower than warnings. He addressed a common concern, saying, "Sometimes we get messages that this is somehow a revenue stream for the city. You can clearly see that's not the case." After brief questions from council, Mayor Pro Tem Samarick moved to receive and accept the report, the motion was seconded, and the council voted 5–0 to accept it.
Why it matters: The annual submission is required under the Texas Code of Criminal Procedure and provides an official dataset for state review and for local transparency. The council did not request additional study or follow-up in the meeting; the report was accepted as presented.
What’s next: No further action was recorded at the meeting beyond formal acceptance.
