Commission reviews annual budget letter and adjusts fee timeline to May 1 deadline

The Carson Recreation Commission reviewed its annual budget letter and debated whether to make a formal prioritization (safety before maintenance) explicit in the document.

Chair Nancy Kuo asked for feedback on the letter and several commissioners suggested a brief parenthetical or sentence clarifying that safety items take precedence, with maintenance priorities listed thereafter. One commissioner said safety items "need all those" and recommended keeping but briefly clarifying the order for readers.

Staff explained a citywide process change requiring that fee recommendations be submitted with the budget by May 1, which means the commission will not consider final fees in May. Staff said they will meet with city management and bring a complete fee-recommendation presentation to the commission in April so the commission’s feedback can be included before the May 1 submission.

Commissioners emphasized brevity and clarity in the letter to help council members quickly reference priorities during the budget review process.
