Laurel Renewal Agency delays officer election as bylaws head to City Council

The Laurel Renewal Agency postponed its election of officers on Jan. 12 and approved a pair of membership changes as an updated bylaws ordinance moved to the City Council for a second reading.

The agency’s draft ordinance, described during the meeting as updated bylaws to change the body from five to seven members, is scheduled for a second reading before the City Council on Jan. 13, 2026. Agency members said they would wait for the council’s final action before proceeding with elections.

Peggy Pollock was approved to join the committee and Cheryl Hill was approved for an advisory position. Cheryl Hill submitted a letter requesting to be added back to the committee once the ordinance is approved and membership expands; Judy Goldsby said she will send a letter to county commissioners seeking a county representative seat.

Judy Goldsby moved to postpone the officer election until after City Council action; Dean Rankin seconded and the motion passed, recorded in the minutes as 'all in favor.' The minutes were approved earlier in the meeting.
