St. Martin Parish Council authorizes condemnation orders for four nuisance properties

At its Feb. 3 meeting the St. Martin Parish Council authorized orders of condemnation and abatement for four properties the council found to constitute nuisances under Section 24-105 of the St. Martin Parish Code of Ordinances.

Director of Planning and Zoning Morgan Allemond presented evidence and Compliance Officer Ronald Solarie27s photographs for each case. The council voted unanimously to authorize Parish President Pete Delcambre to proceed with condemnation and abatement on the rear portion of the Shady Oaks Lane parcel in Breaux Bridge (Parcel ID: 05202A2749); Troy G. Chandler, the property owner, was present and addressed the council.

The council also authorized condemnation and abatement for 1062 David Road in St. Martinville (owner Joseph Melancon Jr., not present), citing multiple tires, a dismantled camper and other debris; 1157 Cormier Road in Breaux Bridge (owner Danny Kindla), where inoperable appliances and barrels and other junk were cited; and 1057 Florence Drive in Breaux Bridge (SAL Properties, LLC), where owner Steven James Cormier requested three to six months to clean given ongoing litigation but the council authorized condemnation of the rear portion.

Each of the four motions to authorize condemnation and abatement passed by unanimous council vote as recorded in the meeting minutes. The council relied on photographic evidence and testimony from the planning department in reaching its determinations.
