Residents petition on Royal Valley; public asks about utility-locate program; commissioners share local event notices

Public comment at the Aug. 5 Kitsap County Planning Commission meeting included a petition and a procedural question about utility-locate practices. Thomas Garrett asked whether Kitsap County uses the Call Before You Dig program. Anthony Burgess, capital projects manager with Kitsap County Public Works, answered during the public-comment exchange, saying, "Kitsap County uses the Call Before You Dig program often." The minutes record that exchange and that the chair closed the public comment period after two speakers.

In the meeting's "For the Good of the Order" segment, Chair Alan Beam welcomed new planning commissioners. Scott Diener, a Department of Community Development staff member, commented on the Royal Valley petition. Chair Beam also announced that on Thursday, Aug. 7, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Marvin Williams Hall in Bremerton the Navy will present a proposed program plan for shipyard overhaul. Commissioner Ashlee Hall announced a community event titled "Kick it with Kitsap" on Saturday, Aug. 9, from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Town Square Mall in Port Orchard.
