Soddy-Daisy commissioners approve removal of three hazardous right-of-way trees

The Board of Commissioners of the City of Soddy-Daisy voted June 6 to approve an estimate from Treeworx to remove trees at 10132 Card Road, 742 Lovelady Road and 8723 Springfield Road.

Public Works Director Grant told the board the trees are on city right-of-way and, though they showed green externally, an arborist found they were rotting inside. "An arborist confirmed this," Grant said, and staff reported that two of the trees were in jeopardy of falling on houses. City Attorney Elliott warned the board that "if the City received notice as to the defect and it is on the right-of-way, there is some liability to the City."

Commissioner Keith moved to approve the estimate; Commissioner Shipley seconded. The motion passed with unanimous assent.

The action authorizes immediate removal work at the three addresses; the board did not specify a contract amount in the meeting record. No additional conditions or follow-up tasks were stated during the discussion.
