Greenville council approves $193,000 grant contract to acquire avigation easement for airport runway safety

The Greenville City Council on May 14, 2024 approved Resolution No. 24-15 and Contract No. 2024-0540, entering into a federal/state/local grant arrangement with the Michigan Department of Transportation to acquire an avigation easement for approaches to Runway 10 at the Greenville Municipal Airport.

Councilperson Moss introduced the resolution and Councilperson Cunliffe seconded. The resolution describes the city as the airport sponsor under Federal Aviation Administration and Michigan Department of Transportation definitions and states that the avigation easement acquisition is necessary to remove current and future obstructions to Runway 10. The action authorizes execution of the contract by the City Manager, Mayor and City Clerk.

The resolution lists the parcel identifier PIN 008-028-023-20 (Parcel E11) and cites a grant/contract amount of $193,000 to acquire the easement. The council ratified prior actions taken to acquire avigation easements for the project and approved entering into Contract No. 2024-0540 with MDOT for the acquisition. The motion passed by unanimous vote (7–0).
