The Charlotte County Board of Supervisors used its Dec. 10 meeting to formally thank two departing members and to address a personnel matter in closed session.
The Board adopted a resolution honoring Robert L. Shook, Jr. for his years of service representing the Keysville District (initially 2003–2005 and then 2010–2025). The resolution recited Shook’s community involvement, military reserve service and participation on county and regional boards, and directed that the resolution be recorded in the minutes.
The Board also approved a resolution honoring Vice‑Chair Hazel Bowman Smith for her service from 2022–2025, citing her county employment history, volunteer work and efforts organizing the county’s first Relay for Life and Christmas Parents program.
The Board moved into a closed session pursuant to Virginia Code §2.2‑3711(A)(1) to discuss personnel matters, specifically the county attorney contract. A roll‑call vote was taken to enter the closed session as required by Va. Code §2.2‑3712(D). The Board subsequently certified the closed meeting under Va. Code §2.2‑3712(B). Following the closed session the Board approved a resolution honoring Robert L. Shook and later a resolution honoring Hazel Bowman Smith.
The meeting adjourned after board member comments of thanks to departing members.
