Washington County awards airport vegetation-removal contract, approves budget transfers

The Washington County Board of Commissioners awarded a contract for vegetation and tree removal at the county airport and approved budget transfers and amendments during a special meeting on March 21, 2025.

County Manager/County Attorney Curtis S. Potter said bids were received to clear vegetation and trees at airport property to convert portions of the land into mowable acreage. Commissioner Ann C. Keyes moved to award the contract to Sawyer’s Land Developing, Inc. and to authorize the Board Chair, County Manager, and/or Finance Officer to negotiate, execute, and deliver the contract on behalf of Washington County. Commissioner Julius Walker, Jr. seconded the motion and it passed unanimously.

County Finance Officer Missy Dixon reviewed budget transfers and budget amendments included in the commissioners’ packet. Commissioner Ann C. Keyes moved to approve the transfers and amendments; Commissioner John C. Spruill seconded and the motion carried unanimously. After approvals the board voted to adjourn upon a motion by Commissioner Spruill and a second by Commissioner Keyes.

The contracts and budget adjustments were approved without recorded dissent. No public comment or contested debate on the items was recorded in the meeting minutes.
