Board adopts FY24–25 ad valorem tax levy and approves budget transfers

The Washington County Board of Commissioners approved the Order to Collect Ad Valorem Taxes for FY24–25 and a set of budget transfers and amendments during its July 1 meeting.

Tax Administrator Sherri Wilkins reported the total tax levy for FY24–25 as $7,662,726.42, adjusted for releases of $9,276.23; discounts taken through July and August payments totaled $50,271.04. The minutes note NCVTS collections of $1,012,738.13, total collections and credits of $7,140,941.01 and real and personal property not collected totaling $521,785.41. Wilkins said a listing of delinquent taxpayers and amounts owed is available in the tax office.

Following the report Commissioner Tracey A. Johnson moved to approve the Order to Collect Ad Valorem Taxes for FY24–25; Commissioner John C. Spruill seconded and the motion carried unanimously.

Finance Officer Missy Dixon reviewed budget transfers and amendments included with the commissioners’ packet. Commissioner Tracey A. Johnson moved to approve the budget transfers and amendments as presented; Commissioner John C. Spruill moved to approve individual line-item overruns and budget transfers completed effective June 1–30, 2024; both motions carried unanimously.

Ending: The board recorded the tax collection order and approved the budget adjustments; supporting schedules and a delinquent taxpayer listing are available in county offices.
