Resident Kerry Abrams urges relocation of High Street "Dead End / Residents Only" sign after vehicles get stuck

Resident Kerry Abrams of 29 High Street told the Port Deposit Town Council on Sept. 2 that nonresident drivers frequently become stuck on the dead-end High Street, causing property damage and congestion.

Abrams said the “Dead End / Residents Only” sign is placed too far from the street entrance and is obstructed by overgrown tree branches, reducing its visibility. She also said an abandoned vehicle near the end of the street further limits space for turning. The Council acknowledged her concerns and agreed to act.

Public Works & Code Administrator Dan Jamison will oversee relocation of the sign and trimming of the vegetation that is blocking sight lines. Town Administrator Vicky Rinkerman said she will issue a written notice to the owner of the abandoned vehicle requiring its removal.

The actions are administrative steps; no formal vote was required. The measures are intended to reduce traffic incidents and property damage by improving signage visibility and clearing turning space. Council members present who participated in the discussion were Deputy Mayor Kevin Brown, Councilman Daniel Berlin and Councilwoman Randa Thiele.

Town officials did not provide a timeline for completing the sign relocation or the vegetation work beyond assigning responsibility to Public Works.
