Lincoln County pursues Wyoming Outdoor Recreation Grant for Big Springs signage and potential Viva Naughton dock

The Board of Lincoln County Commissioners on Aug. 23 authorized staff to pursue a Wyoming Outdoor Recreation Grant preapplication to fund signage at Big Springs and potentially a dock and breakwater at Viva Naughton. Commissioner Hansen moved for the county to pursue the preapplication; Commissioner Harmon seconded and the motion was adopted.

Mary Crosby, Grant Coordinator, explained the grant requires a 10% match. During discussion Kent Connelly raised flood-control concerns tied to the Colorado River compact and noted that dock improvements could provide a safety benefit; Crosby confirmed the county match estimate of about $27,800 already included an additional $5,800 referenced during the discussion.

The board’s action authorizes the county to move forward with the preapplication and to coordinate the potential local match with the City of Kemmerer for Big Springs work. No final commitment to construction or spending beyond pursuing the preapplication was recorded in the minutes, and further approvals will be required if the grant moves beyond the preapplication stage.
