The Dorchester County Council held a second public hearing on the proposed fiscal year 2025 budget during its May 21, 2024, regular session and heard that volunteer fire companies have requested additional assistance, Council President George L. Pfeffer Jr. said.
The hearing did not draw public speakers, and the council recessed the public comment portion after hearing that request, Donna F. Lane, clerk to council, said. Lane said the budget will next be considered at a legislative public hearing and adoption scheduled for May 28, 2024, at 6:02 p.m.
Council President George L. Pfeffer Jr. reported total county cash and investments of $23,437,784.44. The council approved the minutes of May 14, 2024, and approved vouchers as presented; Councilman Ricky C. Travers abstained from payments made to Simmons Center Market, according to the minutes.
County Manager Jerry Jones offered no comments during the manager's remarks portion of the agenda. Councilman Mike Detmer said he will attend a Memorial Day service at Long Wharf Park on May 27, 2024, at 11 a.m., and Pfeffer thanked staff and others who worked on the FY25 budget.
The council adjourned with no further business. The budget ordinance will return for formal consideration and possible adoption at the May 28 legislative public hearing.
