The Eureka County Board of Commissioners accepted Vice Chair Michael Sharkozy’s resignation at its March 19 meeting and directed Clerk-Recorder Kathy Bowling to notify the Governor pursuant to NRS 244.040 concerning filling the county commissioner vacancy.
Commissioner Marty Plaskett thanked Sharkozy for 11 years of service and moved to approve acceptance of the resignation; Vice Chair Sharkozy seconded the motion and it passed 2-0. The minutes record the resignation as effective June 1, 2024. The board instructed the Clerk to proceed with the statutorily required notification to the Governor’s office, noting Nevada law requires appointment of a replacement from the same political party as the departing commissioner (except in Carson City) and that the appointee serves until the day before the next general election’s newly elected official takes office.
Clerk Recorder Kathy Bowling will process the notification to the Governor’s office and the board will consider recommended appointees when the Governor names a candidate.
