Eureka County endorses University of Nevada Reno Extension regional coordinator model

University of Nevada Reno Extension Area Director Holly Gatzke presented a realignment plan to restructure extension services in rural Nevada and to create an "extension county coordinator" who would serve community outreach functions across three counties, including White Pine.

Gatzke described Extension’s six mandated areas—natural resources, horticulture, agriculture, health and nutrition, community and economic development, and youth and family development (including 4‑H)—and said the organization has delivered research-based education in Nevada for nearly 150 years. She proposed using staff clustering and a coordinator role to increase local outreach and to leverage research resources such as Gary McEwen’s work.

After discussion and feedback from the board, Commissioner Marty Plaskett moved to approve the UNR Extension realignment request for Eureka County; Commissioner Michael Sharkory seconded and the motion carried 3-0.
