Bedford County commissioners on April 9 issued a series of proclamations and approved routine administrative business, including payroll, expenditures and personnel actions.
Commissioner Mike Stiles read a proclamation recognizing April 14–20, 2024, as National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week to honor Bedford County 9‑1‑1 telecommunicators for their role in emergency response. Alex Delia, Director of Emergency Services, had recommended the proclamation.
Judy Felker read a proclamation recognizing the Young at Heart Games and Young at Heart Weeks (April 29–May 17, 2024). When Commissioner Stiles asked about the age range for the program, Felker said it is 50 and older. Pete Loehner read a proclamation declaring April 2024 Alcohol Awareness Month in Bedford County; the proclamation cited national statistics and urged community action. Christopher Gresko read Governor Wolf’s proclamation recognizing April as Child Abuse Prevention Month. All proclamations were approved by motion.
The board approved payroll and disbursements as presented in the packet, including payrolls of $416,832.45 (March 22) and $416,523.60 (April 5) and multiple general fund and departmental payments. The minutes list other funds (CYS, CDBG, Liquid Fuels and commissary) and indicate approval; the Liquid Fuels figure in the minutes appears as “5,87869” in the transcript and has been rendered as $5,878.69 in this account summary to reflect standard monetary formatting.
The board also approved a package of personnel actions submitted by department heads: new hires (for example, Joshua Kirby and Abby Lins), transfers and separations (several listed with effective dates). Commissioners moved and seconded the motions as recorded; the minutes record approval without roll-call tallies.
Commissioner Winck moved to adjourn at 10:18 a.m.; Commissioner Baughman seconded and the meeting was closed. The next meeting is scheduled for May 14, 2024, in Room 303 unless called sooner.
