Salary Board approves minutes and a slate of hires and wage actions

The Bedford County Salary Board approved the minutes of its March 12 meeting and authorized a series of hires, wage rates and longevity increases at its April 9, 2024 meeting, held immediately after the Board of Commissioners meeting.

Melissa Cottle, the county treasurer, moved to approve the personnel actions and Commissioner JR Winck seconded; the motion was approved (vote tally not specified). Earlier in the meeting, Commissioner JR Winck moved and Cottle seconded approval of the March 12, 2024, meeting minutes; that motion was also approved.

The board approved the following personnel and wage actions as recommended by department heads: part-time Correctional Officers Joshua Kirby and Thomas Berkebile at $16.50 per hour (effective 3/18/24); Abby Lins as a SIL Caseworker I in Children and Youth Services at $16.99 per hour (effective 3/25/24); Dakota Couturiaux as a Probation Officer at an annual salary of $31,500 per union contract (effective 4/1/24); Alexa Bilonick and Linda Kennedy as Correctional Officers at BCCF at $18.6125 and $18.25 per hour respectively upon completion of training (effective 3/22/24); a longevity increase for Allison Martin, Veteran Service Officer, to $13.5499 (effective 4/15/24); a longevity increase for Corrine Stockenus, Clerk Typist II, CYS to $13.0179 (effective 4/22/24); and appointment of Elaine Barfield as Tipstaff in Court Administration at $100 per day (effective 4/2/24).

The meeting was adjourned at 10:19 a.m. after the votes. The next meeting was noted as scheduled for May 14, 2024, unless called sooner by the Board of Commissioners.
