The Bedford County Salary Board approved pay rates and appointments for 17 employees during its May 14, 2024, meeting, following a motion by Commissioner JR Winck and a second from Treasurer Melissa Cottle.
The action, taken under New Business, covered a mix of hires, training completions, a longevity increase and acting assignments across county departments. Approved items included Jazlin Branting as a probation officer at $31,500 per the union contract (effective April 22, 2024); multiple Correctional Officer appointments and training completions at BCCF (as recorded in the minutes) with hourly rates ranging from $16.00 to $18.50; a Telecommunicator Trainee at the 911 Center at $14.92 per hour (non‑union, effective April 13, 2024); an Administrative Technology Specialist for the Commissioners (Elaine Barfield) at $22.00 per hour (non‑union, effective April 15, 2024); an LPN at BCCF at $25.75 per hour (non‑union, effective May 6, 2024); and an Acting Lieutenant assignment and pay adjustments for county corrections staff, among other listed personnel actions. Treasurer Melissa Cottle moved to approve the minutes from the April 9, 2024 meeting earlier in the session; Commissioner JR Winck seconded that motion, and it carried. The board noted there was no old business to present.
The meeting was called to order immediately after the Commissioners’ meeting at 1:19 p.m. and adjourned at 1:20 p.m. Commissioner JR Winck moved to adjourn; Melissa Cottle seconded. The next Salary Board meeting was set for June 11, 2024, unless called sooner by the Board of Commissioners.
