Resident urges updated high‑visibility school‑zone signs on Pearl Road; 4‑H club invites public to May 11 buyer night

At the April 22 Parma Heights City Council meeting, public comment included a safety complaint about school‑zone signs and a presentation from local 4‑H members.

Lon Kaufmann of 155 E. 314th (Willowick) told council he had driven through the Pearl Road school zone and found it lacked the high‑visibility fluorescent green signage he observed at other Constellation Schools. Kaufmann said he missed the sign, received a photo citation in November, and offered folders with photos and documentation for council review. He described his background in graphic design and urged the city to research whether the Pearl Road zone meets federal visibility recommendations; no immediate council action was taken and Kaufmann said he would provide his photographs to council staff.

Earlier in the public session, members of the Homestead 4‑H youth program (identified in the minutes as Sodapop Kaiser, Cooper and Emily) introduced their program at Stearns Homestead (6975 Ridge Road) and invited residents to a Potential Buyer Night on May 11 (6:00–8:00 p.m.), where attendees can meet market animals, sample products and learn about the county fair auction process.

Council took no formal action on the signage complaint during the meeting but staff were informed of the concern and the resident's offer to provide photographic evidence.
