Council advances first readings on notes for streets, ladder truck and roof work

Parma Heights City Council moved forward with first readings on several financing measures at its March 25 meeting but did not approve final bond issuances.

Clerk Barbara Allen read ordinance titles describing proposed notes in anticipation of bonds: Ordinance 2024-26 would authorize notes not to exceed $1,000,000 to pay costs of improving Kingsdale Boulevard, North Church Street and other streets by resurfacing and replacing concrete; Ordinance 2024-27 would authorize notes not to exceed $2,100,000 to acquire fire-department equipment including a ladder truck and radios; Ordinance 2024-28 would authorize notes not to exceed $500,000 to replace or improve the roof of the Service Department and other public buildings.

Service Director Sepik told council that bids for the Kingsdale/North Church resurfacing project will be published March 27 and April 3, with sealed electronic bids due April 16; he emphasized that curb and apron repairs are generally the residents’ responsibility unless resurfacing work requires replacement. Finance Director Iaconis asked council to consider reducing required readings from three to two for upcoming notes, but council only advanced the ordinances on first reading at this meeting.

These ordinances were introduced and recorded on first reading; further council action and final approval will be required before the city may issue notes or bonds or proceed with purchases. No final vote to issue notes occurred on March 25.
