At its March 6 meeting the Washington County Board of Commissioners approved a series of administrative motions including appointments, budget transfers and travel approvals.
The board appointed Marty Swett to fill the unexpired Planning Board seat through March 31, 2024 after a recommendation from the Planning Board. Commissioner Ann C. Keyes made the motion and Commissioner Carol V. Phelps seconded; the appointment was unanimous.
On a separate item, the Travel & Tourism Authority recommended removing Marcus Williams for "perpetual absences" and for failing to keep current with local occupancy tax returns; the board approved removing Williams and appointed Amar Patel, owner of the Rodeway Inn & Suites, to fill the unexpired term, again by unanimous vote.
Finance Officer Missy Dixon reviewed budget transfers and amendments included in the agenda packet; Commissioner Tracey A. Johnson moved to approve the transfers and amendments and the board voted unanimously. The board also approved travel requests to the 17th Annual NC Black Summit (April 27–28) and NCACC County Advocacy Days (May 23–24); Clerk Julie J. Bennett provided estimated per-person costs and said funds are available in the current budget.
Why it matters: these personnel and fiscal actions affect county governance, board representation on advisory bodies and routine county operations.
Next steps: appointed members will assume their duties; travel registrations will be completed by the clerk and finance will proceed with budget adjustments consistent with approved amendments.
