The Rawlins County Board of Commissioners approved a purchase by Rural Fire District No. 2 for replacement radios from Sunny Communications at a cost of $24,749.46 to be paid from the RFD#2 Equipment Fund.
Chris Niermeier, representing RFD#2, clarified that the Sunny Communications quote discussed at the prior meeting covers refurbished radios and that the department wants replacements because current radios are becoming unrepairable and have recurring signal issues. Niermeier said that Vance would program the radios and that fire and EMS units in this context are not required to use the encryption standard law enforcement uses, so the quoted radios meet programming requirements. He also said RFD#2 would not pursue a grant because funds exist in the equipment fund.
In a procedural move, Commissioner Alan A. Solko rescinded an earlier motion approving a $23,700 Sunny Communications quote and then moved to approve the Sunny Communications quote in the amount of $24,749.46; Commissioner Mark Mosley seconded the motion, which carried.
Niermeier also reported that a new thermal camera has arrived and that the department will keep the old unit as a backup.
