The Union County Board of Commissioners on April 16 approved Resolution 2024-004 to establish the Elk Point Ambulance District, a special service district covering parts of Civil Bend, Elk Point, Richland, Brule and Spink townships and including the City of Elk Point.
The motion to adopt the resolution was made by Commissioner Joffer and seconded by Commissioner Dailey; the motion carried. The resolution names the new entity the Elk Point Ambulance District and specifies detailed township and section boundaries in county records. Under the resolution the district’s initial board of directors will consist of five members, each elected from the county’s commissioner election districts, and the board will exercise powers granted under South Dakota Codified Law (SDCL) chapter 34-11A.
Lynn Bren of the South Dakota Public Assurance Alliance presented an overview of SDPAA services to the board immediately before the vote.
The resolution states it will take effect 20 days after publication as authorized under SDCL 9-19-13. The county did not record any amendments to the resolution during the meeting; the board recorded the motion as carried. Next procedural steps are publication of the resolution and arranging the district’s initial organizational actions and elections under the timelines and procedures in SDCL 34-11A.
The board adjourned the meeting at 12:45 p.m.; it is scheduled to reconvene April 30, 2024.
