The Union County Board of Commissioners approved routine county business March 5 in Elk Point, including two property abatements, courthouse closures around Easter and a memorial donation to a state assistance team.
Commissioner Headid moved and Commissioner Dailey seconded approval of Abatement #2024-002, which allocates $467.76 across county and local taxing jurisdictions; that motion carried. The board then approved Abatement #2024-001 for D & L Wagner totaling $690.72 on a motion by Headid and second by Dailey.
The board also voted to follow the state and close the courthouse on Good Friday, March 29, and Monday, April 1. Commissioner Dailey made the motion; Commissioner Kimmel seconded and the motion carried.
On a motion by Commissioner Headid with a second from Commissioner Dailey the board approved a donation of $100.00 per year served to L.A.S.T. (SD Local Assistance State Team) in memory of Sheriff Dan Limoges, totaling $3,500.00. The minutes record the motion as carried.
The commissioners also approved payroll and a long list of vendor claims and warrants, with payroll runs and departmental expenditures recorded in the minutes (examples include BW payroll on 2/23/2024 for $96,388.20 and CH payroll on 2/29/2024 for $176,181.87). The minutes list numerous vendors and department totals; the board approved those claims on motion (mover recorded in the minutes).
