The Autauga County Commission met April 16, 2024 in Prattville and unanimously approved a series of routine and project-specific items, including a contract award to resurface County Road 6, multiple personnel actions and the purchase of a mini excavator for county engineering.
The commission voted to award project ACP 01-101-23 (STPMN-0122 (251)) — resurface and traffic stripe on County Road 6 from roughly 230 feet west of County Road 81 to County Road 57 — to the lowest bidder, Asphalt Contractors Inc. The action was approved for District 3 by motion and carried by unanimous vote.
Commissioners also suspended the rules to add and approved a $45,000 purchase of a mini excavator for the Engineering department through the Sourcewell purchasing cooperative.
The meeting recorded several personnel actions: acceptance of the resignation of Deputy Sheriff Jason Crumpton (effective April 5, 2024); approval to hire Cody Scott Barnhart, Deputy Sheriff (grade PS303, step 3), effective April 23, 2024, to replace Corey Smith; approval to hire Michael Scott Bradford, Deputy Sheriff (grade PS303, step 3), pending background and drug testing, to replace Richard Herring; approval of a one-year, one-step pay increase for Courthouse Security officer James Gunter (date of hire April 3, 2023); and approval to hire replacements following terminations of correctional officers Jesse Rogers and Gregory Peirson. The commission also approved resignations of Operator II Terrance Parker and Operator I James Dunn and authorized replacements.
On routine business the commission approved the minutes of the April 2, 2024 meeting, authorized payment of invoices received through April 16, 2024, and approved a consent docket that included authorization for personnel to attend a set of conferences and training events and a six-month probation for Deputy Matthew Eller. The commission approved transfers to the gasoline budget totaling $4,983.16 from various general fund accounts and $79.92 from the Reappraisal Fund to cover March fuel usage, and approved transfers into the Sheriff budget for additional March gasoline usage.
The commission adopted two recognition resolutions: Resolution 2024-19 recognizing April 14–20, 2024 as National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week, and Resolution 2024-20 recognizing April 21–27, 2024 as National 4‑H Volunteer Week. The 4‑H resolution as recorded in the minutes noted 102 volunteers logging 479 hours during the most recent 4‑H club year (valued at $31.80 per hour, totaling $15,232.20) and that the program reached over 3,000 participants.
Other approved items included: approval of Shelton Plat No. 1 subdivision off County Road 45 North (District 5); authorization to advertise to hire a Solid Waste Officer; approval to solicit bids for oil change, electrical maintenance/repair and plumbing maintenance/repair services; surplus and destruction of a sheriff KDS monitor (model 900W, serial FOSU73020569U); and a $100 appropriation to the Central Alabama K-9 Unit.
The commission entered executive session at 5:42 p.m. and reconvened at 5:51 p.m.; the minutes do not disclose executive-session details. The meeting adjourned at 5:55 p.m. and the commission scheduled its next regular meeting for May 7, 2024 at 5:00 p.m.
