Echols County meeting roundup: Jimmy Tucker appointed to elections board; animal control and HB 223 tabled; personnel session held

At the Aug. 7, 2025 meeting of the Echols County Board of Commissioners, the board handled several routine and procedural items alongside substantive discussions.

The board unanimously approved the appointment of Jimmy Tucker to the board of elections (motion by Commissioner Bobby Walker, second by Vice‑Chairman Bobbi Pohlman Rodgers; vote 5‑0). Chairman Kenneth Petty tabled HB 223 (referred to in the minutes as the Trees Act) because the board found some wording unclear. The animal control ordinance was also tabled until the county updates its codes and considers amendments proposed in prior years.

Sheriff Randy Courson spoke with County Manager Alan Levesque about whether certain sheriff's office budget items, including gasoline, had been merged; Levesque said they had not. The board entered executive session at 7:43 PM to review personnel matters and exited at 7:59 PM; no personnel decisions were announced. Chairman Petty called for adjournment at 8:00 PM, and the meeting ended by unanimous vote.
