County Manager Raphel Maddox presented the county manager's monthly report April 2, detailing financial status, emergency services metrics, road maintenance activity and several special projects.
Maddox told commissioners that county revenues and expenditures were on budget through Feb. 28, 2024, and that work on the FY2025 budget would begin soon; he said anticipated inflationary growth and recommended organizational changes would increase budgetary needs.
On emergency services, Maddox reported two new ambulances are now in service. For March, EMS collections totaled $53,123.63, bringing year-to-date collections to $147,942.84; the county reported 292 EMS calls for the month. The Pierce County Fire Department reported 68 total personnel (two full-time and 66 volunteer firefighters) and 137 incidents in the reporting period; staff noted station projects including Southside Station 5 (about 95% complete) and Bearville Station 8 (0% complete at the time of the report).
Maddox also updated the board on Emergency Management Agency actions and E-911: the EMA will schedule a 911 Dispatch Committee for public safety partners and will upload Category B reimbursement for DR-4338 (Hurricane Idalia). E-911 and sheriff/police call-volume tallies were summarized in the report.
The road department reported routine maintenance totals: 12 culverts cleaned, five roads built up, 96 ditches dug, five culverts installed or replaced, 110 potholes patched (15 major), 657.78 total grader miles and 260 loads of dirt hauled (4,160 cubic yards moved). Special projects include resumed work on Golf Course Road, Molly Branch intersection drainage improvements at 90% completion, completed Meadow Wood/Cason Rd drainage work, and Old Hoboken paving-to-dirt transition work at about 80% complete with ditching 50% done.
Maddox closed the report and the meeting adjourned at 6:35 p.m.
