At the Stewart County Board of Commissioners’ May 14 meeting, presenters from New Horizons and the River Valley Regional Commission (RVRC) briefed commissioners on a community health needs assessment and the RVRC’s 2023 annual report.
Susan Gallagher, chief financial officer, and Dr. LaKaren Rickman presented New Horizons’ Community Health Needs Assessment. Jim Livingston, executive director of RVRC, presented that agency’s 2023 annual report and answered commissioner questions.
Randy Everett of insurance broker Denham, Edwards & Foshee presented renewal options for the county’s employee insurance plan for 2024–2025. Vice-Chair Arcola Scott moved to retain the current insurance plan and increase the employee premium to $56 per pay period (equivalent to $112 per month); Commissioner Joe Lee Williams seconded the motion. The motion passed with all commissioners voting in favor.
On board appointments, Vice-Chair Arcola Scott moved to appoint Willie Staten to the Stewart County Board of Family and Children Services; the motion was seconded by Commissioner Joe Lee Williams and carried unanimously.
The agenda item concerning the Stewart County Planning Commission/Zoning Board was tabled until the June 2024 regular meeting. Commissioner Joe Lee Williams raised the condition of courthouse doors and requested estimates for replacement; he also questioned the camera at county dumpsites and suggested consolidating dumpsites and pursuing door-to-door collection in some areas. Vice-Chair Arcola Scott asked the Public Safety Administrator about planned vehicles to be housed at the EMS Center.
The meeting adjourned at 6:44 PM; Commissioner Joe Lee Williams left the meeting earlier at 6:42 PM, as recorded in the minutes.
