Ben Hill County adopts updated Hazard Mitigation Plan; SGRC says plan removes 'Heat Hazard' and adds 'Thunderstorm/Lighting'

Ben Hill County commissioners unanimously adopted an updated Hazard Mitigation Plan at their Dec. 11 meeting after a public hearing, Commissioner John Mooney moved to approve the resolution and Vice-Chair Hope Harmon seconded.

Marcus McConico of SGRC told the board the plan is updated every five years. McConico said the update removed the Heat Hazard designation, added Thunderstorm/Lighting as a hazard to the plan, and adjusted action items to account for inflation. The minutes record that there were no public comments during the hearing.

The board approved the resolution with all five commissioners — John Mooney, Hope Harmon, Daniel Cowan, Bennie Calloway and Steve Taylor — voting in favor. The commissioners took no additional recorded action on mitigation measures during the special meeting; the meeting later adjourned.
