The Coffee County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved awarding the Resurfacing Project SWE #25-3580 to East Coast Asphalt, LLC and approved Change Order No. 1 that expands the work and raises the contract total to $4,398,601.42.
County Administrator Wesley Vickers told the board the low bid from East Coast Asphalt was $3,791,316.52; competing bids came from The Scruggs Company ($3,942,035.87) and Thrift Brothers, LLC ($4,696,228.76). Vickers said the county used the budget headroom from low bids to add 3.01 miles of resurfacing on Lott’s Crossing and 0.019 miles of milling to bridge ends on George Deen Road. Change Order No. 1 adds $607,284.90, yielding the $4,398,601.42 total.
Commissioner Jimmy Kitchens moved to approve the bids and Change Order No. 1; Commissioner Ted O’Steen seconded the motion. Vice Chairman AJ Dovers and the other commissioners voted unanimously to approve the contract and change order.
Why it matters: the enlarged resurfacing scope will extend scheduled pavement work on local roads and involves a multimillion-dollar county contract funded through the county’s capital program. The board did not record specific project timelines in the meeting minutes.
What’s next: the county will execute contract documents with the low bidder and proceed with scheduling. No objections were recorded during the meeting.
