The Coffee County Board of Commissioners on June 17 approved a $57,492.63 contract with East Coast Asphalt for the Fox Hills Road Improvement Project (SWE#01-1525) and voted to table bids for the Bud Hutcheson Road paving project (SWE#20-3337B).
County Administrator Wesley Vickers told the commission the Fox Hills project is related to cleanup from Hurricane Helene and that Statewide Engineering solicited proposals; seven firms were contacted and the county received one proposal, from East Coast Asphalt, for $57,492.63. Vickers recommended awarding the work to East Coast Asphalt. Commissioner Jimmy Kitchens moved to approve the bid; Commissioner Ted O'Steen seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
On the Bud Hutcheson Road paving item, Vickers recommended tabling the bids. Commissioner AJ Dovers moved to table the bids; Commissioner O'Steen seconded and the motion passed unanimously. The commission did not make a substantive decision on Bud Hutcheson Road during the special meeting.
Earlier in the meeting County Attorney Tony Rowell advised commissioners they would go into executive session for legal matters under O.C.G.A. 50-14-2(1); the commission entered executive session at 9:04 a.m. and reconvened at 9:47 a.m. The commission adjourned the special meeting at 10:09 a.m.
Votes and motions recorded at the meeting included approval of the agenda, a unanimous vote to enter executive session, a unanimous vote to adjourn executive session, a unanimous vote to table the Bud Hutcheson Road bids, and a unanimous vote to accept the East Coast Asphalt bid for the Fox Hills Road project.
