Floyd County approves consent agenda and awards courthouse renovation; FY26 budget vote deferred

The Floyd County Board of Commissioners approved the consent agenda and several new-business items at its Dec. 9 meeting.

By a 4-0 vote the commission approved the consent agenda, which included: an amendment to the Inmate Medical Services contract with Genesys Health Alliance increasing annual cost by 5.25% for 2026; renewals of inmate detail contracts with the City of Rome and neighboring counties; a $4,800 purchase of a NearHub Board S65 Pro for the Sheriff's Office charged to technology grant funds; and contracts awarded for electronic waste, recyclable cardboard hauling, household hazardous waste services ($36,275 to Clean Harbors) and porta-toilet services ($850 per event). The airport was authorized to enter a wildlife services agreement not to exceed $7,499.95.

In New Business the commission took several votes: it awarded the exterior renovations of the Floyd County Historic Courthouse to Midwest Maintenance, Inc. for $474,300 (including $50,000 set aside for potential change orders), approved the purchase of a used 15-passenger van for inmate transport from Prater Ford for $29,500 (with a required budget increase of $14,950 charged to 2024–25 savings), and approved a change order for the Runway 1/19 Extension - Jones Mill Relocation project with Bartow Paving. All motions on the consent agenda and new-business items carried 4-0.

Separately, the commission deferred adoption of the FY26 budget to its next regular meeting on Jan. 13, 2026, to ensure the full commission could participate in final approval.
