The Floyd County Board of Elections and Registration opened a public hearing Dec. 2, 2025, on a proposed precinct adjustment affecting residents on Melody Lane, the board’s elections director said.
Director Beck told the board that voters on Melody Lane are currently assigned to the Garden Lakes precinct and that staff are considering two options: reassigning those voters to the Alto Park precinct or suppressing the Melody Lane votes because the number of affected voters is small. The director said the board will hold a second public meeting in January 2026, at which time it will take a vote on any precinct change.
The matter was presented as a constituency-level adjustment driven by the small number of affected voters. Board members did not take a final vote at the Dec. 2 meeting; instead, they scheduled an additional public meeting in January to allow for further review and public input. The transcript does not record public commenters speaking on this item at the Dec. 2 session.
If the board moves forward with reassignment, affected voters would receive new polling-place information; if the board chooses suppression, staff indicated the change is being considered because the current affected population is small. Director Beck framed the options as staff recommendations to be decided after the January meeting. The board did not adopt a final action at the Dec. 2 meeting.
The next procedural step is the publicly noticed Jan. 2026 meeting when the board plans to vote on the precinct adjustment.
