Long County schedules three public hearings on proposed tax-digest increase in November

The Long County Board of Commissioners scheduled three public hearings to satisfy state notice requirements for a proposed increase in the tax digest.

County Manager Chuck Scragg told the board the hearings will be held Nov. 6, 2025 at 6:00 PM and Nov. 18, 2025 at 9:00 AM at 468 S. McDonald Street, and Nov. 18, 2025 at 6:00 PM at 75 W. Academy Street (the latter in conjunction with the board’s regular session and work session). Commissioner John Reddish moved to hold the hearings on those dates; Commissioner Gerald Blocker seconded and the motion carried.

Scragg described the hearings as part of the statutorily required advertisement of a tax increase; no hearing testimony was recorded at the Oct. 21 work session. The hearings will provide an opportunity for residents to comment on the proposed digest and any tax-rate implications.
