Probate Judge Teresa Odum administered the Oath of Office and Loyalty Oath to Commissioner John Reddish and Commissioner James Craft at the Long County Board of Commissioners’ Jan. 3, 2023 meeting, formally seating them for the year.
After calling the session to order at 9:05 a.m., Chairman Robert D. Parker presided while the board handled routine organizational business. Commissioner John Reddish moved to approve the January agenda; Commissioner Gerald Blocker seconded and the motion passed unanimously. Commissioner Blocker then moved to approve the December 2022 minutes; Commissioner Reddish seconded and that motion also passed unanimously.
The board then filled leadership roles for 2023. Commissioner Gerald Blocker moved to appoint Robert D. Parker as chairman; Commissioner Reddish seconded and the motion passed unanimously. Commissioner John Reddish moved to appoint Gerald Blocker as vice chairman; Commissioner Jeremy Hall seconded and the motion passed unanimously. Commissioner Blocker moved to appoint Attorney James Smith as county attorney for 2023; Commissioner Reddish seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
The meeting record also shows a motion to authorize payment of bills (moved by Commissioner Blocker, seconded by Commissioner Hall) and a unanimous motion to adjourn (moved by Commissioner Reddish, seconded by Commissioner Hall). County Administrator Russell Simmons was noted as absent. The minutes were adopted and signed.
