Board to consider appointing E‑911 director Wingate Whitley as Deputy EMA Director

Public Safety Director Joey Fowler asked the Tift County Board of Commissioners on Sept. 2 to appoint Wingate Whitley, the county’s E‑911 director, as a Deputy Emergency Management Agency (EMA) Director. Fowler said Whitley has more than 25 years of public safety service to Tift County and that, if approved, staff would sign and submit a notification letter to the Director of the Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency (GEMA/HS).

Commissioners indicated they would place the appointment on the Sept. 8 consent agenda. No formal vote to appoint Whitley was recorded at the Sept. 2 work session; the appointment will be finalized only if the board approves the consent‑agenda item at its next meeting.
