At its Sept. 8 meeting the Tift County Board of Commissioners approved a consent agenda that bundled multiple routine and capital items.
Key items approved on the consent agenda included temporary tax relief for eligible standing timber in a disaster area; appointment of Wingate Whitley as deputy EMA director; acceptance of an Adult Felony Drug Court grant award of $288,383 with a requested $25,000 contribution from the county Opioid Fund toward the 15% match; approval of in‑town basketball court improvements totaling $167,735.36 funded from ARPA; and authorization to issue Notices to Proceed and contracts for FY25 LMIG and a bridge replacement project (combined contract amounts recorded as $2,320,564.85 and $1,766,757.58 respectively, funded from LMIG/SPLOST VI and TIA). The board also approved a license renewal for the Avigilon camera and locking system at the Pickleball Courts, a contract with Traylor Business Services for business personal property verification ($12,000), filing of a regional transit application, an alcohol beverage license application for Mama Nell's Kitchen, and a resolution declaring surplus vehicles.
Commissioner Donnie Hester moved to approve the consent agenda as read; the motion carried 6‑0. The approvals put multiple capital contracts and grant acceptances into motion; staff will execute contract documents and follow standard procurement and grant‑reporting procedures.
