Commissioners approve multiple rezoning requests, deny one and postpone another

At the Jan. 12 meeting the Whitfield County Board of Commissioners considered a batch of rezoning requests forwarded with recommendations from the county planning commission and voted on them in a single block of agenda items.

The board approved rezoning requests by 4-0 votes for: Paul Bagby (SA to R-5, 3.4 acres on Red Clay Road, Cohutta, Parcel 11-011-01-000); Michael Fowler (R-2 to GA, 7.98 acres at 1808 Greeson Drive, Rocky Face, Parcel 27-201-12-000); Edward and Teana Ponders (GA to R-5, 11 acres at 3023 Hickory Flats Road SE, Dalton, Parcel 13-087-05-000); Wise Home Builders (GA to R-2, 10.29 acres at Prospect and Cohutta Beaverdale Road, Cohutta, Parcel 10-110-03-000); Jerry Johns (C-2 to R-2, 1.61 acres on Lower Dug Gap Road, Parcels 13-008-43-000 and 13-008-45-000); Dennis and Melissa Flowers (GA to R-5, 2.0 acres at 437 Cohutta Beaverdale Road, Parcel 11-093-02-006); Rogelio Paniagua (R-2 and R-6 to R-6 and C-2, 2.01 acres on Hill Road, Parcel 12-291-20-000); and a special-use permit and rezoning request by the Dalton-Whitfield Solid Waste Management Authority for a landfill and rezoning to GA for 15.57 acres on Gazaway Road (Parcels 13-168-02-000, 13-168-05-000, 13-168-07-000).

The board denied a rezoning request by Ricardo and Ana Palomo (R-2 to R-5, 1.85 acres at 475 Dawnville Road NE, Parcel 12-100-17-010). The board approved a rezoning for Rosa Lopez from R-5 to R-7 for 1.45 acres on Sheridan Road with a condition that existing septic tanks be removed and the proposed duplexes be served by public sewer. The board postponed action on SDH Atlanta LLC’s request to rezone 61.24 acres at Reed Road and Rauschenburg Road (Parcel 11-281-02-000).

All the recorded rezoning motions were approved 4-0 except the denial and the postponement noted above. The minutes record conditions when specified by the planning commission (for example, sewer connection for Rosa Lopez).
