The Jeff Davis Parish Economic Development Commission convened at noon April 10 at First Guaranty Bank in Jennings to review several local development prospects, regional planning initiatives and routine business.
Creed Romano, CEO/President of the Jeff Davis Parish Economic Development Commission, told members the commission has had discussions with ICE Industries about potential interest in the Zagis Building and said he had also spoken with the owner of the former KFC property in Jennings. Mayor Henry Guinn provided additional property updates, citing the Shoney’s building, the groundbreaking for the Old River project, and developments at The Way’s building.
The meeting’s new-business agenda included a number of program updates from Romano. He briefed commissioners on LED’s entrepreneurship program and outlined Project Hercules, and he reported on a planning grant through the Southwest Louisiana Regional Planning Commission. Romano also raised concerns about water availability in Lacassine and noted an expected visit from Robi Deyer, Regional Director of Rural Development from the Governor’s office.
Judy Petry reported on the most recent Thornwell Water Board meeting. Carter Prejean introduced Emily Olivier, identified in the minutes as a ShopRite marketing intern attending the meeting, and Dr. Shane Fontenot delivered an update on operations and matters at the Jennings Airport.
On procedural items, Judy Petry moved to approve the meeting agenda; Beau Hearod seconded and the motion passed unanimously. Beau Hearod later moved to accept the minutes from March 10 and March 20, 2024; Judy Petry seconded and that motion passed unanimously. Shane Fontenot moved to adjourn; Judy Petry seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
