County Administrator Gary Mixon told Sumter County Council on Feb. 10 that ribbon cuttings are scheduled Feb. 11 for the Dazell Fire Station and Dabbs EMS to showcase new fire trucks and ambulances purchased with Capital Penny sales tax funding. Mixon also previewed county participation in National Litter Month in March, describing coordination with Palmetto Pride, the City of Sumter and SCDOT and noting a Litter Advisory Board meeting to plan activities.
During the public‑comment period Anna McKavitch, identified in the meeting record as district manager for the Sumter Soil and Water Conservation District, announced a 'Walk for Water' event in March to raise awareness and funds about global access to potable water. Matthew White (listed on the staff roster) invited council to an upcoming teacher appreciation luncheon at Rafting Creek and highlighted support for local educators.
