Commissioners on May 21 received multiple road maintenance updates and authorized next steps for several projects.
Jeff Daley of KLJ told the board that testing on an additional nine miles for County 6 and County 17 remains to be completed; after testing is finished Daley will provide a cost estimate for those additional miles. Daley also provided a map showing the last year each paved county road received a chip seal or overlay. Commissioners agreed to accept Flexible Road Funding from the North Dakota Department of Transportation to cover preliminary engineering on County 55 through the gorge.
A county staff member recorded in the minutes as Johnston provided an estimate of $554,000 for proposed gravel maintenance projects for the year; commissioners agreed to obtain quotes from contractors listed in the county bid book. The minutes do not show a detailed breakdown of the $554,000 estimate or list specific contractor names for the forthcoming quotes.
The board’s actions were recorded as direction to proceed with testing, engineering, and solicitation of bids; no construction contracts for the paving or gravel work were awarded during the May 21 meeting.
