Cavalier County approves $625,000 transfer to buy Langdon shop, sets April closing

Cavalier County commissioners approved a $625,000 transfer March 5 to finance the county’s purchase of the Langdon shop and voted to approve the Purchase Agreement, setting closing for April 2, 2024. The transfer motion specified that $100,000 of the funds would come from indirect Social Service zone funds in the County General Fund.

The transfer was moved by Commissioner Stanley Dick and seconded by Greg Goodman; the board approved it on a roll call vote with all members voting yes. Commissioners also reviewed a Purchase Agreement prepared by State’s Attorney Angelo Mondragon and approved the agreement on a motion from Austin Lafrenz, seconded by Stanley Dick. Commissioner Greg Goodman abstained from the Purchase Agreement vote, citing a conflict of interest; the motion carried.

County Road Foreman Sheldon Romfo asked the board to accept locker shelving and a hoist from seller Kevin Landsem; Commissioner Stanley Dick moved to purchase the shelving and locker units for $2,500 and the hoist for $5,000. Those equipment items were added to the Purchase Agreement for the shop sale.

The board also agreed to advertise a surplus 1999 Chevy Tahoe the county no longer uses. The purchase-closing date is scheduled for the commission’s April 2 meeting; county staff were directed to complete the closing steps outlined in the Purchase Agreement.

The action amends the county budget by moving funds into Road and Bridge for this specific facility purchase; no other funding sources or future capital plans were specified during the discussion.
