The Grainger County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved a set of budget amendments and adopted several measures affecting county finances at its Jan. 12, 2026 meeting.
Commissioners voted to approve General Fund budget amendments (item 13A) after a motion by Commissioner Andy Cameron and a second from Commissioner Ed McBee; the roll call listed 15 AYE votes and no nays. Similar roll-call approvals were recorded for Sheriff’s Department amendments (13B) moved by Commissioner Darrell Williams and seconded by Commissioner Tina Davis, and for Department of Education amendments (13C) moved by Commissioner Wendy Noe and seconded by Commissioner Ed McBee; both passed with 15 AYE, 0 NAY votes.
The commission reconsidered an earlier authorization to purchase the Blaine Medic 4 building and approved a revised funding arrangement. Commissioner Darrell Williams moved and Commissioner Ed McBee seconded Resolution 14A to fund purchase of the Medic 4 EMS building from Morgan Family Investments, LLC for $300,000 to be paid from Debt Service. The roll call recorded 14 AYE votes and 1 NAY (Commissioner Scott Wynn); the resolution passed. The minutes record that the commission rescinded or reconsidered the prior Dec. 8, 2025 authorization for the building (previously listed at $320,001 with three-year financing) before approving the $300,000 funding arrangement.
The board also approved Resolution 14B, moved by Commissioner Luke Stratton and seconded by Commissioner James Acuff, authorizing the Grainger County Trustee to round property taxes and interest; the resolution passed by roll call, 15 AYE, 0 NAY.
On a separate motion, Commissioner James Acuff (seconded by Commissioner Darrell Stratton) moved to adopt a property value indexing plan that sets property assessments every four years with indexing every two years. The roll call recorded 14 AYE, 0 NAY and one PASS (Commissioner Tina Davis); the motion carried.
