At its May 7 meeting the Polk County Board of Commissioners approved several administrative and budgetary measures, including adoption of the Fiscal Year 2023 Final General Fund Amendments and an FY2024 capital fund amendment.
The board adopted a resolution finalizing FY2023 General Fund amendments. Separately, the board amended the adopted FY2024 Capital Fund 340 Budget to include an $80,000 allocation for paving a 12‑foot access lane to the Rocky Hollow Tower site; the paving had been included in the approved CIP but not yet added to the adopted capital budget.
Commissioners also approved renewing the county's health insurance with Aetna for FY2025. County materials noted a $114,000 credit on the second bill and an estimated 2.5% premium reduction if vision and dental are combined; the net effect would raise estimated employee premiums to $739,010 and the county’s share to $3,693,134 compared with the prior Cigna plan and last year’s one‑time credit.
The board amended the Polk County Classification and Compensation Plan to add a Maintenance Director position within the Sheriff's Department at Grade 20 (starting pay for Grade 20 listed as $54,531, $57,869 with five years' experience) and approved amendments to Chapter 2, Sections 2‑282 and 2‑283 of the Code of Polk County to adjust purchasing procedures and thresholds in response to inflation.
All motions on these administrative items passed unanimously. County administration will present implementation details and updated CIP materials as work proceeds.
